A few things…

Been a busy week visiting trainee teachers, beginning a project to work with some schools in implementing the IT Diploma and a couple of presentations – and all very interesting and enjoyable.

In the mix was a great morning with head teachers from Sutton who turned out to be a very welcoming, friendly and committed group. I pushed them quite hard but they responded with great humour. Thanks to all, and especially to Isabel for the invitation and hospitality. One thing that really sparked some interest for its ability to bring the school trip back into the classroom was a discussion about the i-gotu.

Remember all those field trips when pupils were too busy eating crisps or fighting to take in the purpose of the trip? The i-gotU is a simple and easy to use GPS tracker that records journeys and automatically adds GPS locations to photos taken on the trip. It can also create an animated trip of the route and play back the photos at the point they were taken. Great for bringing the trip back into the classroom, dead easy to use, and a snip at less than £65…

Then it was off to a TeachMeet at Melksham as part of the Vital initiative.

Great presentations and ideas on using visualisers in the English classroom, involving learners in the creation of VLE materials, supporting Functional Skills with Guroo, using Merlin to enhance school communication and learning, video conferencing with FlashMeeting, and, from Myles Pilling, a compelling and impassioned plea for better tools and messages to support learners with written communication difficulties.

Looking forward to more meetings such as these. Good to meet with the Wiltshire IT Team again, Clare and Emma from Vital, and teachers from across the county.
